STATE REPRESENTATIVE JON SANTIAGO

Massachusetts 9th Suffolk District

Service: U.S. Peace Corps and U.S. Army Reserve

Dr. Jon Santiago has spent his life in service to others, as a Peace Corps volunteer, captain in the Army Reserve, and an emergency room doctor at Boston Medical Center. He first ran for office because he understands the acute problems of his patients are too often rooted in poverty, systemic injustice, and a lack of opportunity. Jon will bring a sense of urgency and energy the fight for progressive values in the Massachusetts State House.

Jon was born in Puerto Rico and moved to Boston when he was in elementary school. After college, Jon joined the Peace Corps in the Dominican Republic and later studied as a Fulbright Scholar in Paris. He returned to Boston about 10 years ago with a plan to study medicine and give back to the community, where he now serves on the boards of the South End Community Health Center, Friends of the South End Library, Friends of Titus Sparrow Spark, and the Puerto Rican Veterans Park. A graduate of Yale School of Medicine, Jon now cares for underserved people as an emergency medicine doctor at Boston Medical Center, the city’s safety net hospital.
