STATE REPRESENTATIVE MATT WILHELM

New Hampshire's Hillsborough 40th District
Service: AmeriCorps Team Leader with City Year New Hampshire

Matt Wilhelm first moved to Manchester after college to serve as an AmeriCorps member with City Year New Hampshire, leading a team of young adults from diverse backgrounds in a year of full-time service in high-need public schools.

After City Year, Matt joined the founding team of ServeNext, organizing AmeriCorps alumni and supporters to make civilian national service a priority in the 2008 first-in-the-nation presidential primary. He helped build grassroots support for what would eventually become the Edward M. Kennedy Serve America Act, signed into law by President Obama in April 2009.

A husband, father, and nonprofit leader, Matt currently has two national service programs in development: Concert Corps, which recently completed a successful summer pilot; and Granite Service Scholars, which was awarded an AmeriCorps planning grant earlier this month.

He earned his master's of public administration at UNH's Carsey School for Public Policy and hopes to continue his career in public service as a member of New Hampshire's citizen legislature. Matt will bring fresh perspective, new ideas, and bold leadership to the largest and oldest state legislature in the country and the single most representative legislative body in the world.
